Positional Studies with BJJ Scout - Bicep Ride

Scout has been down and out with an injury, but he is back with a vengeance including his latest venture... a series of breakdowns on Positional Studies, the most recent being 'Bicep Ride.'  As always BJJ Scout breaks down grappling into bite sized morsels that are easy for us to chew regardless of rank and experience.  The more experience one has the more they can digest.

You will also notice a nice little shout out at the beginning (10 second mark) of the video for Brian Johnson's "B-12 BJJ Curriculum" so please do us a favor and help spread the word via Scout's video. Not so coincidentally many of the principles Scout is breaking down are taught in Brian's fundamental curriculum!

Jean Jacques Machado Seminar - November 16-17th - Seattle, WA.

Just a friendly reminder that we are about 10 days away from hosting the grappling legend Jean Jacques Machado for his very first visit to the Pacific Northwest.  Our gi seminar is just about sold out, but we do have spots open for the no gi on Sunday.   Not only is JJM a technical wizard, but he is one hell of a nice guy!  Come be a part of history and train with one of BJJ's most decorated competitors.

New & Improved Northwest Jiu Jitsu Academy - Seattle, WA.

Check it out kids, the new and improved NWJJA front hall has brand spanking new mats!  Same gut wrenching go-go-platas!  Same ol' wicked wristlocks!  And of course the same amazing teaching from Brian J. Johnson, but a shiny, new, uber soft surface to tap your phalanges on!

The NWJJA is a 4000 square foot grappling facility that houses a strength and conditioning floor, two separate training mats, dressing room, and a schedule that fits every ones hectic life.  We are friends and students of some of the most experienced practitioners teaching the art including Rigan Machado / Jean Jaques Machado / Roger Machado / David Meyer / John Will / Tim Cartmell, all of whom we bring to Seattle for seminars.

Big thanks to Spider, Scrappy, Metro-Ross, Kyle the Klass Kryer, and John for helping coach out!
Stop by and see why NW Jiu Jitsu Academy is THE best school for you to train at in the Pac NW!

Lovin' the Half Guard

The Half Guard is one of the most dynamic and evolving positions in the whole pantheon of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.  Developed by Roberto 'Gordo' Correa (I did not know this previously) as a way of dealing with a knee injury that prevented him from working his closed guard, the half guard is arguably one of the premier positions in grappling today.  Our grand coach Rigan Machado has been developing a lot of half guard material over the past couple years including the variations such as deep half, and inverted half guard.

So when I perused Dan Faggella's blog "Science of Skill" this morning with my coffee in  hand I was quite pleased to find a short interview and link to Danny Ives' new site "Bjj Halfguard" which as you can probably discern is dedicated solely to BJJ's Half Guard.  Being one of my favorite positions to both work and be in, I am elated to share his blog with you and am eager to check out what Danny has to offer on his forthcoming DVD series.

Check out the interview "BJJ Half Guard for Non-Athlete's by clicking here!

A student of Lloyd Irvin Danny is renown for his Half Guard work, check out this video of him teaching a basic no gi sweep:
